Rebar and Post Tension Cable Locating
Cutting and coring experts and construction professionals require a reliable, non-destructive means to locate rebar, post tension cable and conduits within concrete structures prior to drilling, cutting or coring. GeoView owns and regularly operates all the necessary geophysical equipment for accurately locating rebar, cable and conduits. These methods include:
-
Ground Penetrating Radar is the most flexible, accurate and cost effective of the geophysical method for locating rebar, post tensioning cable, conduits and slab thickness. In addition to the horizontal location of the targets, GPR can also provide information on depths of the targets and cover thickness and filled versus unfilled masonry block cells. The exploration depth of the method is controlled by the electrical conductance of the concrete and selected frequency antenna. Concrete related investigations are typically conducted with either frequencies higher than 800 MHz. GeoView owns GSSI and Mala GPR systems with antenna frequencies of 800, 900, 1300, 1600, 2000, 2300 and 2600 MHz. Depending on the project goals, the data can either be collected in 2D or 3D.
- Electronic Pipe and Cable Locators to help locate power and conduits within the slab. GeoView owns the most advanced precision locators from Radio Detection, Subsite, Pipehorn and Schonstedt.
- Electromagnetics is an additional non-destructive method used to verify the GPR results and to provide information on cover thickness and rebar diameters. GeoView own Proceq EM equipment.
GeoView has performed rebar and cable locates across the United States on projects ranging in size from airports and military bases to residential homes. The results can be marked on the concrete surface and/or recorded on a scaled AutoCAD drawing. GeoView does not perform xray locates. The following link compares GPR and xray services - GPR vs. xray.
